The growing use of social media and the explosion in smartphone adoption drive heightened expectations among customers. Businesses are increasingly “customer obsessed.” Yet in order to best serve customers, businesses must engage and empower their employees. Employees are the eyes, ears, and, ultimately, the face of your company. Happy employees — and those who have the tools and management support they need to do their jobs efficiently and effectively — will in turn make happy customers.

In August 2013, HP commissioned Forrester Consulting to evaluate new models of engagement. To further explore these trends, Forrester investigated the assertion that employee engagement is mission-critical to a business and explored the extent to which companies have embraced and executed on engagement strategies.
